The conference was made possible by the financial support of the US Government and European Commission. The two-day event gathered representatives of almost all political parties of the Republic of Moldova, Central Electoral Commission, Supreme Court of Justice, non-governmental organizations and academic community. Experts of the International Republican Institute and International Democratic Institute of US and Institute of Public Policies and Pro-Democracy Association from Romania flew to Chisinau to share their experience with Moldovan counterparts. The Conference was dedicated to such issues as legal framework regulating elections, upcoming local elections, initiatives to change the electoral system, referenda, party coalitions and the role of civil society in ensuring free and fair elections.
