Elections for General Mayor of Chisinau municipality of November 27 and December 11, 2005
The new and repeat elections for General Mayor of Chisinau held in November-December 2005 were invalidated because of low voter turnout. Voter turnout for the November 27 new elections was 22.42%, and for the December 11 repeat elections — 22.65%, while a minimum of one third of the eligible voters must participate to validate elections. In this situation, it was decided to establish a moratorium on new elections and the mayor’s office was taken over by interim mayor.
