Social Democracy

According to the Social Democratic Party of Moldova (SDPM) social democracy is not a perfect, finite state which is to be achieved in the future by the society, but rather a system of values imposing the need to create decent living conditions for people and society in general, where each generation is to be educated anew based on the humanity value of the entire world.

The aim of the social democracy is to built a society with equal chances for each citizen to assert him/herself, guaranteeing all its members equal social security conditions.

The main objective of the social policy is according to P. S. D.M. to establish a free, equal and solidarity society — with a developed culture, and health care, permanent endeavors to humanize work process and prevent would-be unemployment.

SDP considers that social policy limited to eliminating the flaws is an inhuman and inefficient policy. An efficient social security may be only the protection relying on prophylaxis. Social policy should not correct or lessen flaws, but rather foresee the future and devise.

SDPM is for cooperation with free trade unions, collaboration aimed to protect employees socio-economic interests. The party will support democratization and nationalization of the trade union movement in the Republic of Moldova, establishing really independent trade unions.

SDPM pleads for cooperation with representatives of various social groups. The party considers that it is its duty to pay considerable attention to cooperation with peasants — the most numerous social group, — as it is aware of the fact that as long as peasants social security problem will not be solved Moldova will face the risk of massive social upheaval. To solve this problem all the social groups should unite their efforts, otherwise social progress of the Republic of Moldova is impossible.

SDPM considers environmental values as part of social democracy. The party will promote environmental security of the citizens, because environmental revival of Moldova is not only a problem of nation survival but rather a global environmental crisis imposing integration into the European environmental revival movement and ultimately of the entire world.

SDPM pleads for nationalization and democratization of the culture by establishing a legal framework and favorable economic conditions for all types of cultural activities. Being aware of the social role of the cultural process ensuring society’s spiritual integrity and its diversification, socio-democrats have defined the following social functions of the culture in their concept of state policy in the cultural sphere:
