Mihai Severovan made a number of declarations and appeals at a news conference

The independent candidate to the Chisinau mayor post, Mihai Severovan, made a number of declarations and appeals at a news conference: “a) the electoral campaign is taking place with violations of legislation in effect. Many shortcomings which favour the candidate of the Party of Moldovan Communists (PCRM), Zinaida Greceanii, were signaled; b) the public organisation Consumer Protection promised to support Zinaida Greceanii at elections, though the law on public associations prohibits NGOs to back any electoral contestants; c) taking part in the electoral campaign of the PCRM candidate are minors who disseminate leaflets in the city, though the legislation bans the participation of children in political actions; d) leaflets of the PCRM candidate are disseminated in the capital, and they do not comprise information about circulation and printing firm which published them, and this is a flagrant breach of Moldova’s election legislation; e) the Justice Ministry must take necessary measures against public organisations which support contestants, the Central Elections Commission and the Chisinau Constituency Election Council must sanction the PCRM candidate, while the OSCE Mission must include these violations in its reports on scrutiny; f) parties and candidates to the mayor post must demonstrate maximum fairness and hold an electoral campaign in line with democratic standards; g) we will strengthen Moldova’s image as democratic state and will exclude any possibility to contest the results of the July 10, 2005 scrutiny only through a fair electoral campaign.” (By INFOTAG)
