Accreditation for election monitoring for CIS-EMO observers

The international organisation for election monitoring in the CIS, CIS-EMO, posted intention to solicit Chisinau’s accreditation for monitoring of the early local elections in the Moldovan capital, and threatens to hold protests in case of refusal.

The head of the Russian representation CIS-EMO, Alexey Kochetkov, unveiled intention to open a permanent representation of this organisation to train Moldovan observers for election monitoring missions in the CIS.

Moldova ratified the CIS Convention on standards of free and fair elections, which stipulates the modality of observation of elections in the CIS area. CIS-EMO was registered in Russia in

2003, after the envisaged convention was signed at the 2002 CIS summit in Chisinau.

Andrei Luchian, chairman of the association for protection of human rights Adjuta-Civis who invited the CIS observers, says that they are the only people capable to undertake an objective monitoring, “because they know better the specifics of electoral processes in our country, to the virtue of historic and geographic reasons.” (By BASA-press)
