Proposal to open polling stations abroad

Coalition “Civic Initiative of Gagauzia” has appealed to People’s Assembly and Central Electoral Commission from Gagauzia to ask Moldovan central authorities to open polling stations in some embassies of the Republic of Moldova abroad: in Turkey (Ankara and Istanbul), Russian Federation (Moscow and Saint Petersburg), and Ukraine. Member organizations of the Coalition has ground their proposal on the fact that many inhabitants from the autonomy are abroad and consider that such a decision would contribute to the realisation of the citizens’ rights who are living on a permanent basis in Gagauzia, but who are temporarily abroad.

Appeal against a candidate

Association of agro producers “OG-AGRO” from Gagauzia and associations of wine producers from the region, have issued a declaration that shows their disagreement with the opinions expressed by Mihail Formuzal, candidate for the Governor post of Gagauzia, during a program released on the Russian TV station “ORT”. The signers of the declaration state that Formuzal, doubting the quality of the wine products, “has discredited the wine producers from the country and autonomy, betraying thus country and regional interests”, so that “he has no moral right to pretend to the Governor post of Gagauzia”. The declaration has been published on 31 October 2006, on the front page of the official local newspaper “Vesti Gagauzii” (“News of Gagauzia”), founded by People’s Assembly and Executive Committee of Gagauzia, without being mentioned that information has an electoral character. On the same page, it is posted a communique regarding the meeting of incumbent Governor of Gagauzia, Gheorghe Tabunscic, with the head of OSCE Mission in Moldova, Ambassador Louis O’Neil.
