Democratic Party supports Vasile Ursu

A communication of the Democratic Party announces that this political group will support the candidacy of Vasile Lupu for the post of mayor-general of the Chisinau municipality at the November 27 local elections. “This decision was influenced by political neutrality of Vasile Ursu, as well as the need to consolidate executive structures of the Chisinau City Hall,” reads the communication. Representatives of the Communist Party and Centrist Union of Moldova had earlier announced support for Vasile Ursu.

The cabinet of ministers appointed Pavel Midrigan as member of the Central Electoral Commission (CEC) on November 9. The executive and president of Moldova hold the right to appoint by one representative in CEC, while the Parliament is to name another 7 members.

The lawmaker on behalf of the Our Moldova Alliance (AMN), Alexandru Lipcan, appealed the CEC at a November 10 sitting of the Parliament “to appreciate the declared support of the chief of state to the candidate for the mayor-general post, Vasile Ursu, and coverage of these support statements by public mass media.” AMN lawmaker Anatol Taranu asked the Prosecutor-General’s Office to check the legality of registration of Vasile Ursu under pretext that the municipal electoral council did not check his kit enough.
