Electoral contestants to shortly announce amounts to spend in race

Immediately after the Central Electoral Commission (CEC) confirms the people responsible for the parties’ finances in the electoral race, they will have to open special accounts in banks, called “Electoral Fund”. Once every 2 weeks, the electoral contestants will submit financial reports containing the information of revenues and expenditures to the CEC. According to the Action Planning Calendar provided by the Election Code regarding the July 29 elections, the electoral contestants must declare in media the money and other support they got for the elections until July 7, i.e. 21 days after the start of the race. The Action Planning Calendar requires the banks and the financial clerks to inform the CEC about the money transferred to the electoral contestant. The procedure will be done within 24 hours after the transfer is made. The CEC set the spending limit for the July 29 elections of 7,500,000 lei for political parties and 500,000 lei for independent candidates. (Info-Prim)

Communists condemning extremist and xenophobic trends

The Party of Communists of the Republic of Moldova is condemning the extremist and xenophobic manifestations taking place in Moldova lately, Deputy Speaker of the Moldovan Parliament Grigore Petrenco stated at a press conference. He accused right-wing formations, particularly the Liberal Party, as well as the mass media working for them, of supporting Romanian extremist organizations and promoting the organizations’ xenophobic messages. For an example, Grigore Petrenco referred to the Noua Dreapta (New Right) organization — “a legionary-type formation in constant touch with Chisinau Mayor Dorin Chirtoaca (Deputy Chairman of the Liberal Party)”. The Deputy Speaker presented video and photo evidence that Noua Dreapta activists were involved in the April 7 riots in Chisinau, as well as a photo showing the participation of Chirtoaca in a public event the organization had held in Romania recently. Petrenco stated that Noua Dreapta had organized in Romania quite a few actions in support of post-election disturbances in Moldova. The Deputy Speaker voiced indignation about a recent article in the Capitala newspaper, a municipal publication directly subordinate to Mayor Chirtoaca, which “praised general Antonescu to the skies”. The Party of Communists called upon political parties and the press to revise their lines of conduct and to abstain from extremist xenophobic manifestations in a country populated by dozens of ethnic communities. PL denies any relation with the legionary movement “Noua Dreapta”

The Liberal Party rejects the accusations brought by the Party of Communists that the liberal forces and the Romanian legionary movement “Noua Dreapta” (New Right) would develop relations. PL deputy chairman Dorin Chirtoaca said that the statements by Communist Grigore Petrenco are some absurdities and there is no connection between the PL and Dorin Chirtoaca himself and this or any other organization of this kind. “This action is part of the denigration campaign against political opponents. The public opinion continues to be poisoned with misinformation. These aberrations come from the fear to respond for all the crimes they have committed, particularly after the 7th of April,” Chirtoaca underlined. As well, he denied any participation in the actions held by “Noua Dreapa” in Iasi, stressing that he has attended in fact a manifestation organized by the Iasi City Hall over the brotherhood established between Chisinau and Iasi. PLDM suggests ignoring communists’ accusations

The Liberal Democratic Party thinks the accusations of the Party of Communists concerning the cooperation between the opposition and xenophobic and extremist forces should be just ignored. The PLDM leader Vlad Filat stated at a press conference that the accusations are only aimed at dragging the opposition into fruitless, exhaustive debates, for “it is a well-known fact that the ones who have really split the Moldovan society are Vladimir Voronin and his party”. Filat stated that nobody will ever be able to prove that he had ever said something xenophobic or extremist, or behaved so. The PLDM leader expressed concern about the mounting attacks against the independent press by the Communist authorities. (Infotag)

Vladimir Voronin: Secession of some members from PCRM is nothing but gossip

Chairman of the Party of Communists of the Republic of Moldova, Vladimir Voronin, declared on Wednesday during a press conference that manipulations made about secession from PCRM of some of its members “may be qualified only as gossips”. According to Voronin, “until today, no one except Marian Lupu abandoned the party and what you called rumors will stay further as rumors”. The PCRM leader emphasized that it is not “a tragedy” if some party member abandon it. At the same time, Voronin stated that such “betrayals” are just unpleasant. “These cases of betrayal are unpleasant both at personal and political level, especially when it is necessary to stay side-by-side and shoulder-by-shoulder, and someone is thrusting you with a knife”, said Voronin. PLDM regards as purely populist the government’s decision concerning Investprivatbank

The Liberal Democratic Party of Moldova regards as “a purely populist one” the decision by the Government to purchase the bankrupt Investprivatbank and to give it to Banca de Economii (savings bank). The PLDM leader Vlad Filat stated at a press conference that because of Investprivatbank’s bankruptcy, nearly 8 thousand deposit holders have been affected, whose deposits amount to approximately 640 million lei. According to Filat, several months ago, total amount of deposits in Investprivatbank was 1.2 billion lei, of which 0.8 billion lei was invested in various risky projects, overwhelmingly in housing construction. “Now the Government has in fact forced Banca de Economii into taking Investprivatbank with all its problems into its ownership. Banca de Economii is a state-owned bank and, being the legal successor to the former USSR Sberbank, it already has a very heavy burden to carry — to repay some 600 million lei to Sberbank deposit holders who lost their savings due to breaking up of the Soviet Union. Instead of taking over Investprivatbank, Banca de Economii should have been given the possibility to work peacefully, repaying the old Soviet arrears. But no, our Government decides to have two problematic banks instead of only one”, said the PLDM leader. He demanded from the Government to ensure transparency in solving the Investprivatbank problem, first and foremost to publish data on bank credits, because “shortly before the bankruptcy, some people close to the country leadership took credits from the bank”. Filat also stated that some time ago, Investprivatbank received a very disadvantageous credit from FinComBank, whose founder is Oleg Voronin, the Moldovan President’s son. (Infotag)

PSD: Marian Lupu has a “mission” from the Party of Communists

The Social Democratic Party assumed that the transition of the ex-Speaker Marian Lupu to the Democratic Party of Moldova is targeted at undermining the consolidation of the Left-Centrist forces in Moldova. According to a statement released by PSD, Marian Lupu is presently acting in harmony with the Communists’ practice of “bribing democratic parties’ members and subsequent ruining of the opposition”. The Social Democrats condemned Lupu for his refusal to hold an honest, sincere dialog with voters about unification of democratic forces for the purpose of eliminating the Voronin regime from the political scene. This statement was released a day after a group of 50 Social Democrats from Balti city declared joining the Democratic Party of Moldova, currently led by Lupu.

PD: stopping the war among political actors is the only solution for Moldova

The Democratic Party of Moldova says that assuming responsibility for the political action and stopping the war among political actors is the only way for Moldova to overcome the current crisis, according to a statement released by PDM as reply to the PSD accusations. “The consolidation of social-political parties was always one of the PDM priorities, with efforts in this respect being torpedoed by PSD leaders under various groundless pretexts… The recent developments proved that fortifying the political, social-democratic centre around the PDM team led by Marian Lupu may temperate the offensive of radical elements, which by following mean group interests polarized the society for current electoral reasons. The PSD evolution proves that this party is crushed by internal conflicts between various groups directed from outside of the party. Releasing some initiatives such as yielding the region from the left side of the Dniester and, more recently, the possible participation in the early parliamentary elections jointly with a party which calls for the federalization of Moldova proves that PSD is not an independent political actor anymore, but plays the game of some extremist elements which have nothing in common with the social democracy,” reads the statement.
