PCRM ready to vote an opposition candidate to President office, with one condition

Mark Tkaciuk, the head of the PCRM electoral headquarters has declared that during the meeting of the PCRM parliamentary faction held today, the PCRM members of parliament discussed about the support for the candidate for the head of state nominated by the right-wing coalition. “We had to think about the conditions to propose instead this support. We have also to decide who would be the 8 PCRM MPs to vote. The coalition should propose a single and apolitical candidate, but we still should discuss this”, added Mark Tkaciuk. In his opinion, a final decision in this regard maybe adopted in two weeks at the meeting of the PCRM Central Committee.

Democratic parties: the negotiations’ results made public after the Constitutional Court pronounces on election outcome

The PLDM, PL, PDM and AMN will make public the results of the talks after the Constitutional Court passes its decision on validity of the July 29 elections, the leader of the Moldova Noastra Alliance Serafim Urecheanu has told. Serafim Urecheanu said that the negotiations between the four parties continue and their leaders had meetings with representatives of the World Bank and discussed the future relations with the Bank and the IMF. “The representatives of the international organizations said they will initiate the cooperation with Moldova when a consensus is reached,” Urecheanu said. “We are now discussing fine points. We will be able to ensure the people’s welfare and take the country out of this deep crisis, similar to that from the 1990s, only with the help of the World Bank,” the AMN leader said, adding: “We do not intend to form a declarative, but a functional coalition that could take the country out of the mud in which we are stuck up to the years.” (Info-Prim Neo)

APEL gives marks to televisions’ performance in election race

“Most of the televisions committed rather severe deviations from the legal provisions, from professional ethics. It is about four televisions, especially N4 and NIT, but also Moldova 1 and, on certain segments, Eu TV. Pro TV and TV7 were closer to the legal and ethical norms,” stated Vasile State, a project coordinator of the Electronic Press Association (APEL) for monitoring Chisinau televisions during the July 29 elections campaign. “This fact has obviously not contributed to insure favorable conditions for free and conscious elections,” reads a press release drafted by the APEL experts and distributed at a news conference. A series of TV stations presented the electoral competitors in newscasts in an unfair, disproportionate and tendentious manner, thus depriving the voters from the possibility to free shape opinions about the electoral offers, the APEL experts said. NIT, N4, Eu TV and Moldova 1 displayed disfavoring attitude in news towards the opposition parties. On the other hand, Pro TV and TV7 adopted a more balanced attitude in this regard and did now allow, in their news, partisan or tendentious attitudes towards electoral contestants, said the APEL monitors. According to the observers, broadcasting programs with electoral content, others than the debates, generated preconditions for the dissimulated spreading of political preferences. (Info-Prim Neo)

Public broadcaster claims it was not biased in the election race

During the campaign for the July 29 parliamentary elections, the public company “Teleradio Moldova” did not make political partisanship, neither propaganda for any political party — this is the conclusion of an internal monitoring report, presented by the Public Company “Teleradio Moldova” to its Supervisory Board (Observers Council) on August 6. The monitoring stressed on the newscasts and debates — on frequency and duration. The monitors observed the news program “Mesager” on the television Moldova1 and Radio Matinal, Novosti and Panorama on Radio Moldova, said chief monitor Dumitru Turcanu. According to its own report, Moldova 1 hosted 32 debates attended by all the electoral contestants. The public broadcaster specifies that the difference between its internal monitoring report and the ones presented by some NGOs is big and it supposes there are errors and certain interests behind the latter ones’ monitoring reports. Hearings on Moldovan elections in the US Congress

The Commission on Security and Cooperation in Europe of the US Congress held yesterday hearings on the early parliamentary election in Moldova and the perspectives of the Moldovan-American relations. The former head of the OSCE Mission to Moldova, Louis O’Neil pleaded for reconciliation, cooperation and reforms, warning also against the too long political negotiations for setting up a Government. O’Neil has suggested that USA could support Moldovan reforms at the moment, through the Millennium Challenge Account’s funds. These funds should go for strengthening of the civil society, political parties and the judicial reform. (europalibera.org)

PL, AMN to ask Constitutional Court to re-distribute parliamentary seats

The PL and the AMN will ask the Constitutional Court (CC) to re-distribute seats in the parliament. On August 7, the Supreme Court of Justice, as had the Court of Appeal done on the eve, stated it was not within its competence to make a decision on the suit of the two parties, unhappy with the way the CEC had distributed the seats. First sitting of the newly-elected Parliament be hold on August 28

According to some sources within the Government the first sitting of the new Parliament could be hold on August 28. Under the effective legislation, the newly-elected Parliament shall hold its first sitting not later than one month from the Election Day, July 29. Early, was made a supposition that the newly-elected Parliament will be convoked between 20 and 25 August, before the Independence Day, August 27. But this supposition was revised as many parliamentarians and government officials are on vacation and not due come back until August 20. On the other hand, all authorities will participate in the Independence Day celebrations, so on August 28 all could participate in the parliamentary sitting, the source said.

The Party of Communists may go into opposition

The Party of Communists of the Republic of Moldova (PCRM) dos not exclude the possibility to go into opposition, a member of the PCRM parliamentary faction affirmed. “Last week, we (PCRM) declared that are ready for a dialog with the opponents to consider proposals aimed at the consolidation of stability, ethnic peace, national sovereignty and independence of Moldova. However, we cannot have a coalition with those that plead to destroy Moldova’s statehood and join Romania”, the PCRM parliamentarian said. In his words, all the opposition parties rejected the PCRM proposal and in this situation PCRM will go into a responsible opposition. “This means that we will not hinder them in governing the country, but will help to overcome the political crisis related to the election of the chief of state”, concluded the source. AMN backs PLDM in seeking the office of Parliament Speaker

Moldova Noastra Alliance give support to the Liberal Democratic Party of Moldova (PLDM) considering that according to the July 29 election results, PLDM should receive the office of the Chairman of Parliament. The AMN leader told to the Pro TV Chisinau that it’s normal for PLDM to have such a wish; all four parties have their own wishes regarding the state offices. “There is no deadlock or dissension in our talks. There is only an exercise that happens sometime”, maintained Urecheanu. (Infotag)
