LADOM looks for national observers

The League for the Protection of Human Rights (LADOM) would like to monitor the electoral process at every polling station during the early parliamentary elections on July 29. For this purpose, LADOM launched the slogan “Participate in the monitoring campaign to prevent election frauds” and started a campaign to recruit independent national observers. The requirements for the candidates are: not to be younger than 18 years old, to be a citizen of Moldova and not to be politically affiliated. (Deca-press)

Interior Ministry assures that it does not meddle into the electoral campaign

Replying to attempts to deliberately discredit the police and accusations brought against leadership and employees of the Interior Ministry that they allegedly meddle into the electoral campaign, the Interior Ministry denies all these charges and describe them as groundless, according to a statement released in the media. It says that “within the parliamentary elections the Interior Ministry is in charge with ensuring the security of Moldovan citizens and rejects categorically any support to some or other electoral contestants.” The Interior Ministry will thoroughly consider all cases of involvement of security bodies in the electoral campaign and seeks the support of the media, civil society, and all electoral candidates to identify cases of this kind. Finally, the ministry calls upon electoral contestants to refrain from deliberate politicising of the security bodies. (Moldpres)

Four members from the Communist Singera community subdivision join PDM

Four members out of 13 of Singera community subdivision of the Party of Communists of the Republic of Moldova (PCRM) have decided to quit PCRM and join the Democratic Party of Moldova (PDM). One of them, sociologist Veaceslav Bistritchi, told a news conference today that he had always supported Marian Lupu, and after Lupu joined PDM, he has decided to follow him. Bistritchi said, “During the previous election campaign, we had worked so much in Singera and, as a result, the Party of Communists won 32% votes in that densely populated Chisinau suburban community. We had worked so because we were said that Marian Lupu would be nominated as candidate for presidency. But that did not happen, disappointing bitterly so many PCRM members”. In his opinion, Marian Lupu’s departure will take minimum 10% ballots away from PCRM on July 29. He explained, “Many PCRM members admire Lupu for his being such a wise politician, and even now they will all for him, i.e. for PDM, even if they do not state officially their departure from the Party of Communists”. Another PCRM member that quit the party for PD is teacher Silvia Pargaru, a national Karate champion. (Infotag)

Liberal Democrats accuse Communists of splitting society

The ruling Party of Communists of the Republic of Moldova (PCRM) keeps on waging its bad policy of splitting the Moldovan society according to political and ethnicity criteria, and the Liberal Democratic Party of Moldova (PLDM) resolutely condemns this policy, MP Iurie Leanca and PLDM candidate Dmitry Chubashenko stated at a news conference today. Leanca said, in particular, “During the 8 years of its rule, the Voronin regime has split our society into patriots and traitors, into advocates of the Moldovan statehood and Romanian unionists. But this policy is aimed solely at distracting the public attention from serious internal socio-economic problems and from the actual bankruptcy of the Communist governance”. Dmitry Chubashenko stated Vladimir Voronin had failed to cultivate a feeling of patriotism not only in the citizenry as a whole but even in the members of his own family. Chubashenko provided concrete examples showing that members of the president’s family have chosen other countries for permanent residence, not Moldova. The Liberal Democrats are convinced that the current complicated stage of inter-ethnic relations in Moldova, caused by the Voronin regime’s segregation policy, will be necessarily overcome, and that the responsible political forces, which will come to govern the Republic of Moldova after the parliamentary elections, will ensure an inter-ethnic balance and harmony in the Moldovan society. PPR will not run for the July 29 elections

The Popular Republican Party has decided not to run for the July 29 elections, its leader, former First Deputy Premier Nicolae Andronic announced at a news conference today. He explained the PPR presumes “it is pointless to be a part of the already started political slaughter. We are profoundly concerned about the socio-political situation in Moldova, as the republic has embarked on perhaps the toughest and principal-most election campaign in its entire history. An excessive polarization of the electorate, the society’s division into two camps, and promotion of radical and destructive messages — all this restricts the possibility of holding a fair election campaign”. He stressed that “political hostility has become dominating element in Moldova’s political life and has negative effects on the general situation in the country”. (Infotag)

Party of Socialists of Moldova “Patria-Rodina” backing PCRM

The Party of Socialists of Moldova “Patria-Rodina” (PSMPR) stands against the liberals’ coming into power after the July 29 elections, the PSMPR Chairman Eduard Smirnov stated at a news conference today. “To give state power into the liberals’ hands would mean to deprive citizens of any hope for an up-to-date living quality and for country’s territorial reunification”, Eduard Smirnov said. According to him, the PSMPR shares the recent pre-election declaration of the Party of Communists, which is calling on voters to a stiff but adequate rebuff to liberal destroyers and to protection of the Motherland by using democratic means during the early parliamentary elections. The PSMPR also shares a conclusion made in the PCRM Electoral Declaration that “it is not just a choice between parties, but between extremists and state-minded forces, between street arbitrariness and the law, between losing the country and its independence”. The Party of Socialists of Moldova “Patria-Rodina” announced earlier it would not run for the July 29 elections, but would be backing the Party of Communists in its campaigning. (Infotag)

“Pro Europa” President: “Lupu” project is criminal

“The «Lupu» project will be the last blow to Moldova that will lead to the reformation of the principle of constitutionality,” considers Boris Asarov, President of the Transnistrian Association “Pro Europa”. Asarov said that Marian Lupu’s joining of the Democratic Party of Moldova (PDM) is a “coordinated project between Lupu and Voronin”. The statements were made at a news conference on Wednesday. The leader of the NGO says that the “Lupu” project, whose aim is to promote Marian Lupu to the post of President of Moldova by the vote of the Communists and Democrats, is managed not only by the Communist leader Vladimir Voronin, but also by an international criminal society. According to Asarov, the criminal society is headed by Mark Tkachuk and Oleg Reidman, who are candidates on the PCRM’s list. He also said that the Christian-Democratic leader and new Deputy Prime Minister Iurie Rosca could be also involved. Rosca had the task of publicly criticizing the “Lupu” project in order to create the impression that it has nothing to do with the PCRM, Asarov said. “The project was coordinated at a high level, including by Israel and Russia, while Vladimir Voronin visited the two countries,” the NGO leader also said. Asked by press to comment on the given statements, the PDM leader Dumitru Diacov said: “We have no emotions. These are aberrations uttered at the instruction of Rosca and Tkachuk.” (Info-Prim Neo)

AMN: Democratic forces must save Moldova from Communists

The Moldova Noastra Alliance (AMN) is convinced it the AMN duty in the upcoming elections is to “save our Motherland from the Communists”, AMN leader Serafim Urechean stated during a news conference today. He said that during the 8 years of a complete state power, the Communists have compromised democracy as such and have established a dictatorship in the country. In his opinion, the Communist authorities have inflicted a serious damage to Moldova’s international image and interests, have failed to fulfill the UE-Moldova Action Plan, and have decelerated negotiations on concluding a new cooperation agreement between the Republic of Moldova and the European Union. He also remarked the Republic of Moldova has set a deplorable record, remaining for 14 years under the Council of Europe’s monitoring — as a defaulter unable to reform its prosecution and judiciary organs. Besides this, he said, Moldova has lost nearly 200 cases before the European Court of Human Rights and, as a result, has already repaid over 300 million lei from the State Budget in compensation of damage to case winners. “Presently, another 1,820 cases, initiated against the Government of Moldova, are being examined by the ECHR. So, the compensations the Government will have to repay will be counted in billions of lei”, stated Serafim Urechean. Besides, according to Urechean the PCRM uses again the administrative resources during the current campaign the “Moldova Noastra” (Our Moldova) Alliance will have the slogan “Be master in Your Own Home” during the current election campaign. Valeriu Cosarciuc, head of the AMN electoral headquarters said in his turn that the slogan “Be master in your own home” invites Moldovan citizens to be commanders of their votes in order to prevent any fraud, to protect their children, so that not to be ill-treated, killed and their parents not to have to leave the country for a decent living. PL wants to terminate the “communist dictatorship”

The Liberal Party wants to terminate the communist dictatorship at the current elections and calls upon citizens to cast their ballots on July 29. The PL leader Mihai Ghimpu delivered a statement in this respect at a news conference. According to Ghimpu, the PL message is to terminate the communist dictatorship. He noted that the key goal of the party is to fight for the freedom of individual, which will bring us an “independent judiciary, a free economy, political stability, European integration.” “Our electors will have to make a choice: either to strengthen the communist dictatorship through their ballots or to terminate this dictatorship and start voting a state based on the rule of law, an independent state, an European state free of the communist dictatorship, a state of people, not a state which works just for the Party of Communists,” Ghimpu stressed. “In the event the PCRM regains the rule, any of us could be kidnapped from the street, tortured and taken home dead, like it happened with the three young men after the April 7 events,” said Dorin Chirtoaca, deputy chairman of the liberals. As well, PL noted that it will have the same electoral programme during the campaign for early elections and will keep calling for the freedom of the state and termination of the communist rule. CEC secretary: PL contradicts itself

Iurie Ciocan, secretary of the Central Electoral Commission, has stated to Omega that leaders of the Liberal Party contract themselves while delivering statements concerning CEC and seeking electoral changes for the July 29, 2009 elections from the Commission. The PL chairman Mihai Ghimpu told a news conference on Wednesday that CEC should allow students who have a temporary residence registration in cities to participate in elections in their native localities upon a special permit. On the other hand, the PL administration asks the CEC to settle the problem of additional lists in some very large localities. In this context, Iurie Ciocan stressed that by raising such demands the PL leader “contradicts himself.” “These children (i.e. students) are not registered on basic lists in their native localities. They will be registered on these lists if they applied in this respect, and they will vote on the additional lists if they applied for the electoral certificate,” added Ciocan, stressing that Ghimpu’s requests are contradictory.
