Twelve electoral candidates likely to attend the early parliamentary elections

Twelve electoral candidates would likely run for the July 29 early parliamentary elections, including ten political parties and two independent contestants. Eight parties have been formally registered for the campaign until now. The application deadline is over today. The Ecological Party of Moldova “Alianta Verde (Green Alliance)” and two potential independent candidates, Oleg Bolotnicov and Maia Laguta, applied before 16:00. The temporary order on ballot papers was drawn, so that “Alianta Verde” could be the No. 10 candidate, Bolotnicov Oleg the No.11 and Laguta Maia the No. 12. A decision regarding their registration and of “Actiunea Europeana” (European Action) Movement will be made the next five days. Tatiana Timbalist has withdrawn her application on registration as independent candidate. (Moldpres and CEC communiqué)

PSD registered in electoral race

The Central Electoral Commission registered one more candidate to the parliamentary elections today. This is the Social Democratic Party, which will be the No.8 contestant on ballot papers. The electoral list of PSD includes nine candidates who hold a foreign citizenship and three persons who have applied for a foreign citizenship. As well, the PSD list includes 48 candidates who are not party members. (Moldpres)

CEC started to check the voter rolls

Central Electoral Commission has received electronically about 95% of voter rolls by Tuesday morning. Currently, the CEC functionaries are checking the received voter rolls. (CEC communiqué)

PCRM is champion of spending for elections

The Central Electoral Commission warned “Moldova Noastra” (Our Moldova) Alliance, Liberal Party and Liberal Democratic Party of Moldova today for violating the Election Code, as these parties did not report the funds they have spent on campaign so far, breaching the deadline foreseen by legislation. CEC member Valentin Vizant said that only PCRM, PPCD and PDM out of the seven officially registered electoral contestants have respected the legislation and delivered reports on incomes and expenses to the Commission. According to the CEC-approved report, PCRM has spent about 1.2 million lei until now, PDM — 1.1 million lei and PPCD about 3,000 lei. The electoral candidates are due to deliver the next reports on expenses for elections on July 20 and 26. (Moldpres)

MAE runs in elections with own list of candidates

“Actiunea Europeana” (European Action) Movement (MAE) goes to the early parliamentary elections with own list of candidates. MAE chairman Anatol Petrencu told a news conference on Tuesday, July 7 that this decision was made after negotiations with other parties to issue a national list have failed. Previously, MAE has considered several possibilities to participate in elections, but going to elections with own list is “the best solution,” according to the party. Petrencu noted that the parties which MAE negotiated with did not give any answer, and rather delayed a decision in this respect. MAE promises to have a clear anti-communist position during this campaign and not to assault the rightwing parties, but will reply to emergent situations if needed be. The MAE list includes candidates who represent the National Romanian Party. (Info-Prim Neo)

“Moldova Unita” (United Moldova) Party won’t participate in elections

The Chair of the Party of Spiritual Development “Moldova Unita (United Moldova)” (PDSMU), Anna Tcaci, told a news conference on July 7 PDSMU would not participate in the snap elections of July 29. With regard to the talks with the Social Democratic Party, Anna Tcaci has said the PSD’s doors are always open for Moldova Unita’s members, but the territorial branches decided not to join PSD yet. Anna Tcaci has shown herself alarmed about “the division of society by national criteria.” (Info-Prim Neo)

PDM candidate likely to be dismissed under political criteria

Sergiu Popovici, electoral candidate on behalf of the Democratic Party, claims that he could be dismissed under political criteria. Popovici, director of the Balti-based Military Hotel and municipal councillor, said that he has got a notification from the manager of the enterprise who administrates the hotel, a structure controlled by the Ministry of Defence, who warned him that he could be dismissed in September because of the “precarious economic condition”. In his turn, Andrei Vichulu, director of the Balti-based branch of the military training centre which administrates the Military Hotel, refuted Popovici’s statements. I do not care and I am not troubled by political activities of Popovici, Vichulu assured. (Deca-press)

Eduard Musuc calls on former supporters to vote for PCRM

Eduard Musuc, former Secretary General of the Social Democratic Party (PSD) and currently a PCRM member urges his former voters to support the Party of Communists of the Republic of Moldova (PCRM) in the July 29 elections. Musuc takes the 43rd position on the PCRM’s list. According to Musuc, at present PCRM is a single political force in Moldova, capable of presenting the interests of voters that cast their ballots for PSD and UCM in the April 5 elections. As argument, Musuc stated that currently PCRM has the power to find solutions for Transnistrian problem, to ensure the neutrality status of Moldova and strategically relations with both the European Union and Russian Federation. Young Democrats demand stopping “hunt” for young people

Three months after the April 7 events, young members of the Democratic Party of Moldova (PDM) has protested today against the “hunting of young persons”. With placards, flags and megaphones, the young Democrats during several minutes tried to sensitize people to the fact that the authorities try to make young persons scapegoats for the April 7 events. “We want that the current or the future government do not make the young people scapegoats for the April 7 acts of vandalism. Our message is: stop hunting the young persons,” said Victor Zubcu, president of the Youth Organization of the PDM. (Info-Prim Neo)

PLDM: This government should not recite poems, but leave

“Now that we experience a crisis, the present government should not recite poems and campaign, but realize that it is time for them to leave,” the candidate on the list of the Liberal Democratic Party of Moldova (PLDM), Veaceslav Ionita said on Tuesday. He said the PLDM is aware that after July 29 it will have to deal with the situation created by the Communists, but it has a viable program of action. The statements come as the Communist candidate Igor Dodon quoted Mihai Eminescu (prominent national poet) at a news conference on Monday. He said that “it is easy to write verses, when you have nothing to say”, referring to the management capacity of the political opponents. During a conference on July 7, the Liberal Democratic candidates, economists Veaceslav Ionita and Veaceslav Negruta presented the major anti-crisis steps stipulated in the PLDM’s government program for 2009–2013. Moldova Noastra Alliance throws shoes at Communists

Members of Moldova Noastra (Our Moldova) Alliance (AMN) presented an internet game, at a news conference, consisting in scoring points by throwing shoes at officials from the Government and members of the Party of Communists (PCRM). The AMN members have said the game’s name is “To give shoes to the Party of Communists” that corresponds with AMN’s electoral slogan in the ongoing race for the early elections. In Romanian, literally, to give shoes to somebody is to send him away. Victor Osipov, an AMN candidate to the Parliament, stated on July 7 that his party was scrutinizing the conduct of “Communist” media outlets. The AMN members have said the mission of the democratic parties in this race is to give shoes to the Communists, while “the PCRM’s mission is to fraud the elections.” (Info-Prim Neo)

Ravnopravye not to participate in snap elections

The Republican Social-political Movement “Ravnopravie (Equality)” will not participate in the July 29 early parliamentary election, the leader of the movement, Valery Klimenko, told a news conference on Tuesday. Klimenko said that he would make public the position of his party at the forthcoming elections next week, when he will tell Russian-language voters what political forces to support. In another context, Klimenko said that ex-Communist Chairman of the Parliament, Marian Lupu, who has recently joined the Democratic Party of Moldova, is a “USA project”, as “the Communists are hindering the USA from fulfilling its geopolitical interests of a super-power”. PL requests CEC to extend deadline to submit applications on voting place until July 20

The Liberal Party (PL) requests the Central Electoral Commission (CEC) to extend the deadline to submit applications on voting place until July 20. The PL leader Mihai Ghimpu made this statement at a news conference on Tuesday. Ghimpu considers that the authorities treat the youth with disdain and limit its voting right. “There are more than 50 thousand students in Moldova, but only 5 thousand of them had the time to submit their applications on voting place to the CEC, as the term until June 26 was very short”, he remarked. The PL Leader is sure that the Communist Party strives for massive fraud in the elections and the establishment of its dictatorship in Moldova. (Infotag)

Sanctions for deteriorated billboards

Two women from the rayon of Orhei have been fined 200 lei each for dirtying advertising materials from billboards of the Democratic Party of Moldova with black paint, said Ala Meleca, spokesperson for the Interior Ministry. After getting a complaint, officers from the Orhei Police Station opened investigations under vandalism charges and held red-handed Irina Mereuta and Ana Golub in the village of Peresecina. Their hands were dirty of black paint which they used to deteriorate advertising of electoral candidates. Investigators found out that unidentified men proposed them to dirty the electoral advertising with black paint in exchange for 500 lei and gave them by 100 lei each and six bottles of black paint. They promised to pay them after the illegal work. (newsmoldova.md)
