MIA Information

Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) presented new information about election-related violations, from November 3 to 10, 2010. According to MIA information, 18 violations (administrative offences) have been documented, and 11 election-related incidents were registered. During the reporting period, 118 election-related meetings were held, attended by about 150,000 persons. (source: MIA)

Only three candidates in Gagauzia

On November 12 the deadline for submission of applications to the position of Governor of Gagauzia expired and only three persons were registered for electoral competition: Elections are to be held on December 12, 2010, and the winner shall be the candidate who will accumulate more than half votes (in first round).

PDM considered dangerous Ghimpu’s address to NATO

Democratic Party of Moldova (PDM) has released a statement regarding the address by the interim President, Mihai Ghimpu, to NATO Secretary General, whereby he asks for support to determine Russian Federation to withdraw its troops from Transnistria. PDM considers inappropriate the public intervention that wouldn’t contribute at all to solving the Transnistrian conflict and has a dangerous potential to create impediments to the future governance, including the dimension of Transnistrian settlement. According to democrats, anti-Russian rhetoric, re-launched in full electoral campaign could damage relations between Moldova and Russian Federation; it undermines the European diplomatic efforts on Transnistrian settlement. PLDM submits evidences and invokes abuses

At a press conference, the deputy chairman of the Liberal Democratic Party of Moldova (PLDM), Iulian Fruntasu, declared that the so-called massive support from municipalities that communists speculate with is “a crass lie, proven by daily notifications that arrive at the PLDM HQ”. According to Fruntasu, citizens from over a hundred localities, presented by PCRM as their supporters, have notified PLDM expressing indignation over the propaganda methods used by communists.

MAE bans by statute the alliance with PCRM and is supported by a Romanian MP

Over 2,000 delegates present at the extraordinary IVth Congress IV of the party European Action Movement (MAE) voted unanimously to introduce an article in the party statute that prohibits any kind of collaboration with PCRM. The congress adopted resolutions on undertaking the necessary steps to outlaw the communist symbols (hammer and sickle), as well as on committing to create new jobs as a national priority.

Romanian PDL MP, Teo Trandafir, declared her support for the party European Action Movement in the current early parliamentary elections, because in her opinion, a democratic governance “can’t be without the MAE”, and the presence of this party in Parliament “will lead to the conclusion of political crisis, by providing the necessary majority to elect the President of the Republic”. These statements were made at IVth extraordinary MAE Congress, where Teo Trandafir participated as a guest.

Gabriel Stati gathers “supporters”

The independent candidate Gabriel Stati launched a website through which he wants to collect at least 30,000 supporters who would support his candidacy in the parliamentary elections of November 28.Signatures are gathered in various locations (tents), through the website www.suporteri.md through social networking.

Valeriu Pasat do not support any more the sale of MiGs

Chairman of the Humanist Party of Moldova (PUM), Valeriu Pasat, expressed his regret that the Government adopted too late the decision on trading six MiG-29, remaining in disposal of the National Army. In 1997, Pasat has signed an Agreement with the U.S. Government on the sale of 21 MiG-29 aircrafts for the amount of $ 40 millions, and Moldova was given a technical and humanitarian aid worth of $ 300 millions.
