Report: Teleradio-Gagauzia breaches conduct and legal rules

The monitoring on the regional public broadcaster “Teleradio-Gagauzia” conducted during the electoral campaign for the November 28 early parliamentary elections and electoral campaign for the election of the Gagauz Bashkan (Governor) revealed derogation from legal, conduct and professional norms, reads a report worked out by the Electronic Press Association (APEL) within the Coalition for Free and Fair Elections.

APPEL executive director Ion Bunduchi said politicians and state functionaries were the most mediated protagonists in Teleradio-Gagauzia, both on TV, and radio. Experts are not present at all, while Radio Gagauzia did not cover any citizens. Therefore, there is no equilibrium in terms of mediation of various categories of protagonists.

Governor Mihail Formuzal was mediated the most among functionaries/politicians. APEL notes that Teleradio-Gagauzia often breaches the legislation on elections and broadcasting, as well as professional norms, by not airing any electoral programmes or debates in the period concerned.
