PDM leader is against the presidential form of government

The leader of Democratic Party of Moldova (PDM), Marian Lupu, said in an interview for Radio Free Europe that “direct presidential elections and the amending of the Constitution, art.78 doesn’t mean that Moldova must pass to a strictly presidential form of government, which presumes an authority concentration in one person’s hand. For a democratic development of the country and its European integration it is quite necessary to keep a system of equilibrium and power distribution among many people and institutions. If not, we take the risk to fall in slough of dictatorship”.

Movement “Ravnopravie” will boycott the referendum

The leader of “Ravnopravie” movement, Valeri Klimenco, declared in a press conference that because the Parliament refused to add for referendum’s examination two proposals of the “Ravnopravie” movement — establishing Russian language as a state language and implementing new constitutional norm, which would provide national minority’s representatives with a right to function in the governmental power system, the “Ravnopravie” movement will boycott the referendum of September 5.
