The views of the EU Special Representative

The EU Special Representative for the Republic of Moldova, Kalman Mizsei, believes that Electoral Code should not be amended as convenient to parliamentary majority before the parliamentary elections. In interview for BASA-press News Agency, Kalman Mizsei says the parliamentary elections must be held as provided by the Constitution of the Republic of Moldova, and the EU expects that these elections will be held democratically, as the voting process during the referendum. At the same time, it is desirable that future parliamentary and extra-parliamentary political parties will reach an agreement, a compromise in the Parliament, if they wish to amend the procedure of electing the President, to vote this amendment after the elections. EU Special Representative also stated that provisions of the Electoral Code should not be changed before the parliamentary elections as convenient to the parliamentary majority, and this issue is about the political culture in democratic countries and it is important that Moldovan political elite takes over this practice.
