PNL clip allowed again

Chisinau Court of Appeal annulled the decision taken by Central Electoral Commission no.3478 of 20 August 2010 whereby the National Liberal Party was forced to withhold its electoral clip broadcast by media encouraging the support for a unionist president. Although the arguments are still not known, the PCRM representative (following the appeal of which the CEC has prohibited broadcasting of the spot) said the decision of the Court of Appeal is illegal, unfounded and will be appealed at the Supreme Court, regardless of CEC’ position in this respect.

SCJ reconsiders the decision on polling stations abroad

Supreme Court of Justice (SCJ) accepted the appeal declared by the PCRM representative against the decision taken by Chisinau Court of Appeal which dismissed the cancellation of the decision taken by CEC and Chisinau Electoral Council on establishing polling stations abroad. SCJ annulled the first instance decision and remitted the case to be reconsidered by another panel of judges. According to PCRM representative, the Chisinau Court of Appeal refused at all to consider the legality of establishing polling stations abroad and rejected the application based on formal reasons, but Supreme Court decision required to reconsider the legality of the procedure for establishing these sections. Urges of responsibility in referendum

Representatives of the Civil Society Congress urges Moldovan citizens to show responsibility in attending the referendum on September 5, because it is conducted “in an unfavorable stage for the state’s history” and that people would become unsatisfied with the referendum because of the billboards that “already present the results of referendum and presidential elections”. Transnistrian authorities say they will not prevent voting in referendum

According to a press release following the meeting between NMR self-proclaimed leader, Igor Smirnov, and the US Ambassador to Moldova, Asif Chaudhry, Transnistrian authorities will not get involved in the electoral process of the Republic of Moldova, but Moldova’s citizens living in Transnistria will not be prevented from participating in elections. This declaration was made by the head of NMR foreign affairs department, Vladimir Yastrebchak. (Lenta PMR)

Electoral advertisement without an author

Central Electoral Commission was notified by PCRM representative, who invokes that Democratic Party of Moldova (PDM) distributes leaflets containing campaigning material but have no information about the number of copies, printing date and publishing house. PDM rejects the accusations and sais the claimed publicity material (leaflets) has been not ordered by PDM and does not belong to it. In its decision on this appeal, CEC decided to take note of the information, found that electoral advertising material submitted as evidence (leaflet entitled “MARIAN LUPU: President has to be elected by people!”) was printed in breach of Electoral Code and sent the material on that case to the Ministry of Interior in order to investigate the case described in the complaint in all aspects and to inform the Central Electoral Commission, within a reasonable time, about the measures taken.
