Prosecution will consider on priority basis the complaints concerning the violation of electoral legislation

The Office of the Prosecutor General has ordered to territorial prosecutors to consider on priority basis the complaints on breaches of electoral legislation during the period of republican constitutional referendum and during the further electoral campaigns and elections to public positions. The statement was made by the Prosecutor General, Valeriu Zubco, during the meeting with Dirk Lorenz, Political officer, Charge d’affaires of the EU Delegation in Moldova. According to Zubco, General Prosecution Office will keep under control the examination of complaints regarding the breach of electoral legislation, violation of right to vote and prevention the citizens’ right to express their will independently, including the boycott of the republican constitutional referendum and upcoming elections to public positions. Simultaneously, the Prosecutor General pointed out that nobody has the right to diminish the importance of electoral rights of Moldovan citizens, and the Prosecution won’t be involved in political actions, but will ensure that lawfulness is steadily observed. Dirk Lorenz noted that European Union pays particular attention and will provide support, including logistical one, to the Republic of Moldova in conducting the referendum, since it is interested that referendum is conducted in good conditions.

PSM has made its choice in the referendum

Just days before the referendum, the Socialist Party of Moldova (PSM) has made clearer its choice, issuing a declaration whereby it states that this entity considers the referendum as the best solution to break through the political crisis, calling upon citizens to participate in the referendum and to vote for direct election of the head of state. At the same time, PSM says it is against the policy of the Liberal Party and Liberal Democratic Party, and supports Marian Lupu and Democratic Party, which recently became a member of the Socialist International. MAE completed the accumulation of messages for the future President

Nearly 30 thousand citizens wrote to the next President of the Republic of Moldova in framework of the campaign conducted by the European Action Movement (MAE) “Write to the President of the people.” That campaign was part of electoral campaign for the referendum of September 5, MAE tents being installed in all districts where citizens had the opportunity to write directly to the next president of the country. Following the conclusion of the campaign, the MAE leader, Veacelsv Untila, said that all messages will be submitted to the next President of the Republic of Moldova, no matter who this is going to be, and the referendum will be validated and most people will choose to elect the president by direct vote. CEC accredited last observers and approved organization of an exit poll

Central Electoral Commission (CEC) accredited last national and international observers to monitor the constitutional republican referendum of September 5, 2010, representing: Swedish Embassy, Moldovan Alliance of Community Centers for Access to Information and Education, Observer Missions of the Community of Independent States; European Action Movement; Moldovan Confederation of Non-governmental Public Organizations; Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe; Georgian Central Electoral Commission; Public Organization of Children and Youth “Mostenitorii (Heirs)”; Association “Promo-Lex”; Czech Embassy in Moldova; Danish Public Organization “SILBA-Support Initiative for Liberty and Democracy”.


CEC approved organization of exit poll in polling constituency no.1 of Chisinau municipality in order to analyze voters’ reaction to modules being tested by the State Automated Information System “Alegeri (Elections)”. The survey shall be carried out by the Center for Sociological Research and Marketing “CBS AXA” Ltd. The study is a part of a range of actions that CEC is implementing in order to introduce the electronic Registry of voters and other automated systems.

CIS observers interested in referendum

A delegation of 62 observers from the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) will monitor the conduct of constitutional referendum in Moldova of September 5, and the experts already started their activities and visits to several electoral bureaus in a number of districts (Orhei, Criuleni, Straseni, Ungheni, Calarasi and Anenii Noi). Statements on this regard were made by Sergey Lebedev, CIS Executive Secretary. Observers represent eight member states of the CIS, CIS Inter-parliamentary Assembly, Parliamentary Assembly of Belarus-Russia and the CIS Executive Committee. During the referendum the CIS observers will monitor the voting process in electoral constituencies and will prepare their own report. (RIA Novosti)
