A group of NGOs urge people to boycott presidential elections

A group of non-governmental organizations urged people to boycott the presidential elections of October 30, 2016. According to them, the amendment of the Constitution on direct election of the president should have been decided with the vote of 68 MPs or in a republican referendum. The Constitutional Court’s decision of March 4, 2016 is illegal, said Vasile Postolachi, member of the “Civic control” coalition. Also, the president of the Moldovan Union of Women, Tatiana Bujoreanu urged NGOs to boycott the presidential elections “because only together we can achieve the main goal — the dissolution of Parliament and early elections.” // Infotag

An initiative group faces difficulties in collecting signatures

The initiative group to support Vadim Brinzan, independent candidate in the presidential race, says the rights of the citizens from the left side of Nistru are violated and they cannot get involved in all stages of the electoral process. Group leader, Stefan Gligor, said in a press conference that more citizens from the eastern regions of the country have shown interest to support Vadim Brinzan, but found out that they are deprived of this right. According to him, the legislation stipulates that the subscription lists that a candidate must submit to the CEC have to be signed by the local authorities. But, as in the eastern region of the country there are no constitutionally elected authorities, over 200 thousand Moldovan citizens from the Transnistrian region automatically lose the opportunity to sign in support of a presidential candidate. // IPN

PNL leader: Some are unionists just before the elections

The candidate nominated by the National Liberal Party (PNL), Vitalia Pavlicenco expressed anger during a TV show that some political parties express their pro-unionist position only during electoral campaigns in order to win the support of a certain electorate. “The Liberal Party is not a unionist party, they do not have this provision in their regulation. The National Liberal Party was the first unionist party, we launched this topic at the Ministry of Justice. Later, there were created more unionist parties. We welcome them, but the fight for unification should not only be fought in electoral campaigns,” said PNL chairman. // IPN
