BOP presents top candidates for becoming President of Republic of Moldova

Igor Dodon, Maia Sandu, Andrei Nastase and Marian Lupu are the candidates with the highest voters support for becoming President of the Republic of Moldova, according to data presented by the Public Opinion Barometer (BOP) carried out by CBS-AXA and commissioned by the Institute for Public Policy.

Thus, the socialist candidate Igor Dodon would receive the votes of 27% of the respondents, while 9.3% of the respondents would vote for Maia Sandu, 8.1% for Andrei Nastase, and 7.5% for Marian Lupu. The survey was carried out earlier than the official announcement regarding the withdrawal of Andrei Nastase from the electoral race in favor of Maia Sandu. The other candidates would receive the following number of votes: Dumitru Ciubasenco — 5.6%; Iurie Leanca — 1,7%; Inna Popenco — 0.8%; Mihai Ghimpu — 0.8%; other — 4,2%; I do not know / No answer — 25.4%; I would not participate in elections / I would not vote — 9.6%.

The survey was conducted in the period of October 6–16, 2016, on a sample of 1109 people in 82 localities, with a margin of error of ±2.9%. // realitatea.md

CEC calls for the exclusion of candidate Inna Popenco from the presidential competition

According to a press release, the Central Election Commission (CEC) asked the Chisinau Court of Appeal to cancel the registration of Inna Popenco as a candidate in the presidential elections of October 30. The decision was taken following the request coming from the independent candidate Silvia Radu, pointing to the fact that Inna Popenco has used in her campaign money to declared to CEC.

Inna Popenco is disappointed by the decision of CEC with regard to her exclusion from the electoral campaign

Inna Popenco, presidential candidate representing “Ravnopravie” movement, is outraged by the attempts of other candidates Silvia Radu and Igor Dodon to determine authorities to exclude her from the presidential race. Furthermore, the Inna Popenco is disappointed by CEC decision that demands the Chisinau Court of Appeal to exclude her from the election campaign on the ground of using undeclared funds.

Andrei Nastase submitted his withdrawal letter to the CEC

Chairman of the Party “Platform Dignity and Truth”, Andrei Nastase submitted to the Central Election Commission (CEC) his withdrawal from the presidential competition. The request for the modification of the ballot and the withdrawal of the PPDA leader will be examined at the next CEC meeting.

Oazu Nantoi summons Iurie Leanca to withdraw from the electoral race

In a video message posted on a social network, deputy chair of the European People’s Party of Moldova (PPEM) Oazu Nantoi asked the leader of PPEM Iurie Leanca who is running for president, to withdraw from the election campaign and to support Maia Sandu in this election.
