OSCE/ODIHR observation mission began

OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) began its observation mission for the presidential elections of October 30 in Moldova. The preliminary findings of the mission will be presented the day after the elections, and the final report with findings and recommendations will be published within eight weeks from the elections.

Observers will look at elections compliance with international obligations and with the national legislation, at the electoral campaign and its media coverage. The core team of observers is made up of 11 experts from 11 OSCE member countries. The mission will be joined by 20 other long-term observers and 200 short-term observers. // IPN

Mihai Ghimpu officially launched his electoral campaign

Liberal Party candidate for President of Moldova, Mihai Ghimpu, launched his campaign in Iasi, Romania, under the slogan “United for Unification”. The event took place in the Union Square. In his speech, Mihai Ghimpu said he does not need to be the President of a state and that he wants this job to go to Bucharest, Cotroceni. “I will be a president who will prepare and make the unification of Moldova with Romania”, said Mihai Ghimpu. PL candidate said he would do the Unification in 2019 following the German model and not by referendum. Unification with Romania is the only chance for European integration.

A new opinion poll shows the favorites in elections

If presidential elections would be held next Sunday, the first three favorites by voters would be: Igor Dodon, Andrei Nastase and Marian Lupu — shows an opinion poll conducted by Intellect Group. For Igor Dodon would vote 30.8% of voters, for Andrei Nastase — 12.2% and for Marian Lupu — 11.8%. Maia Sandu would get 11.3%, Iurie Leanca — 6.9%, Dumitru Ciubasenco — 4.6%, Mihai Ghimpu — 2.6%, Vitalia Pavlicenco — 0.5% and Valeriu Ghiletchi — 0.3%.

The data is available in a survey conducted by Intellect Group, during 19–28 September 2016, on a sample of 2,000 people. // Tribuna

Inna Popenco launched her electoral campaign

The nominee of the “Ravnopravie” Movement for president of Moldova, Inna Popenco, officially launched her campaign for elections of October 30. The event took place during a rally in support of political party leader, Ilan Sor, who is under house arrest. Inna Popenco said her electoral program aims to achieve reforms in medicine, stop the process of schools optimization, increase pensions, return to a social-oriented state budget, stop political war between the ruling and opposition parties, and end the speculation on geopolitics.

Also Inna Popenco stressed that her electoral program builds on the achievements and experiences of Orhei city, which can be extended throughout the country.
