Marian Lupu withdrew from the presidential race

The Democratic Party of Moldova candidate Marian Lupu, announced his withdrawal from the presidential race. He stated that he considers Maia Sandu has more chances to defeat Igor Dodon. According to Lupu, the decision was taken at the ODM Executive Bureau session, after an analysis of the latest data before the election. “The withdrawal decision is founded upon political responsibility, sociological analysis and professional expertise. The message for the PDM electorate is to support the pro-European candidate with the best chances of defeating the Socialist candidate in the second round,” said Lupu. // realitatea.md

Maia Sandu: we do not need Democratic Party support

The presidential candidate Maia Sandu has made public her stance on the withdrawal of the PD candidate from the presidential race. “The farce continues. Plahotniuc was afraid that election results will show how little popular support there is for Marian Lupu, who represents the governing parties. It’s a desperate gesture confirming once again that Dodon is the candidate preferred by Plahotniuc. He could get to terms with that one. Students will vote in the locality where they are studying

Students will be able to vote in the presidential elections of October 30, in the localities where they follow their studies. A draft law in this regard was approved today by the Cabinet of Ministers. Justice Minister Vladimir Cebotari, has presented the amendment that provides for the right of students to vote outside the area where they have registered domicile or residence. Prime Minister Pavel Filip has expressed hope that until the next elections the Electronic Registry will be implemented and citizens will be able to vote regardless of their place of residence and thus there will be no further need for such amendments. // Curentul

A group of PCRM members urges voters to support Igor Dodon

Several members of the Communists Party of Moldova (PCRM) expressed their disagreement with the party’s decision to boycott the presidential elections and have called citizens to participate in the elections. They declared in a press-conference that in the current context when right-wing political actors join their forces, there is no alternative for supporters of left-wing parties but to vote for the socialist presidential candidate Igor Dodon. // IPN

Pavel Filip demands maximum professionalism on October 30, 2016

At today’s Government Session, Prime Minister Pavel Filip called upon all relevant institutions act professionally and ensure a proper conduct of the presidential elections of October 30. The prime minister asked the Interior Ministry, the Central Electoral Commission and all institutions involved in organizing the elections, to avoid paying attention to various political intimidations, and to demonstrate professionalism in order to have a correct and fair electoral elections, so that this can be later confirmed by observers too.
