CEC decided to organize the second round

According to processed data after the presidential elections of October 30, 2016, and given the fact that none of the presidential candidates has received at least half of the valid votes in the first round, CEC decided that the run-off of the presidential election will take place on November 13, 2016. In the run-off elections there will be two presidential candidates participating, the first two candidates that received the most votes in the first round: Igor Dodon, who obtained 680 550 votes and Maia Sandu, who obtained 549 152 votes. In this context CEC approved the template and the text of the the ballot for the second round of the presidential election. The ballot will have a length of 105 mm and width of 120 mm and will contain two rectangles.

Additional polling stations for the runoff can not be opened

The Central Election Commission can not accommodate the request from the Party of Socialists to increase the the number of polling stations in the Russian Federation. According to CEC president Alina Russu, the second round of the presidential elections takes place according to exactly the same rules as in the first round. “Let us get back to who has the authority to organize the elections outside the country, this is the Government and Foreign Ministry. We acted based on Government’s decision and organized the elections in 100 polling stations abroad. The rule is that the runoff election is to be carried out exactly the same way as the first round,” said Alina Russu. // Unimedia

Report: media institutions continued to reflect the unbalanced candidates

During the last week before the October 30, elections, some media institutions continued their unbalanced coverage of the electoral candidates. Even if the leader of the Democratic Party Marian Lupu withdrew from the electoral race, he continued to have the highest number of positive context coverage on all 12 monitored TV stations. In contrast, the common candidate of the center-right parties, Maia Sandu, was rather disadvantaged, according to data of the last monitoring report covering thre conduct of media institutions, report prepared by the Independent Press Association and the Independent Journalism Center. // IPN

Moldovans studying in Romania will have free transportation to vote on November 13 runoffs

Moldovans studying in Romania who intend to vote in the runoff of the Moldovan presidential elections at the polling stations open in Romania will benefit from free transportation. A decision in this regard was taken by the Government of Romania. It refers to one free roundtrip travel by train during the period of November 12 — 13, 2016, to and from cities with polling stations namely: Bucharest, Iasi, Galati, Timisoara, Brasov, Cluj-Napoca, Constanta, Bacau, Suceava, Craiova. // Agora

The “Shor Party” has renounced the boycott of the second round of presidential elections

“Shor Party” will not boycott the second round of presidential elections. The party urged its supporters to vote for whoever they wish, but warns them that “everyone bears personal responsibility for the consequences of their choice”. The Political Council of “Shor Party”, explained through a statement distributed on Facebook by the mayor of Orhei town, that he has urged voters to boycott the first round of presidential elections as a protest against the exclusion of party’s presidential candidate Inna Popenco.  // realitatea.md

The website votum.md launches an online poll regarding candidates’ chances in second round

A website dedicated to conducting online opinion polls, www.votum.md, has announced a new research on citizens’ political sympathies with regard to the two presidential candidates, who led in the first round. In this context, Votum.md website launches a new internet poll where each registered user can vote for Igor Dodon or Maia Sandu. Any person can express their vote on votum.md only after registering in the system. According to organizers, the new survey has an academic purpose and does not influence the election results in any way. // point.md
