First applications for registration

Constituency electoral council of Chisinau municipality has started to receive documents to register applicants for the position of municipal councillor and the office of mayor general of the capital city. According to the draw made at the end of 18 April, registration papers for the mayor general office were filed in the following order:

CEC hotline

Central Electoral Commission (CEC) has set out a “hotline” where voters can find answers to questions about voting procedures in the general local elections to be held on June 5, 2011. The number 0 800 08888 can be dialled from any locality of the Republic of Moldova free of charge and will run from April 18, 2011 to June 5 2011, since Monday to Friday, between 8.00 to 17.00.

PACE calls for actions

Co-Rapporteurs of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) for Moldova calls upon the parties to elect as soon as possible the head of state, to ensure the promotion of democratic reforms and conduct elections in accordance with international standards. The report of the PACE Monitoring Commission draws attention to the problem of electoral lists, delays in implementation of the electronic registry of voters, but also on political and social instability generated by the lack of political consensus on the issue of presidential elections in the Republic of Moldova. Authorities are urged to carry out planned and predictable systemic reforms, cooperating to this end with non-governmental organizations (NGOs). (According to www.coe.int)
